Most “shuttles” at FUK = the free Domestic–International bus

The key shuttle at Fukuoka Airport is the free connector bus between the Domestic and International terminals, not some paid downtown coach. The ride takes about 10 minutes end to end and runs in both directions throughout the day, so you don’t burn money or time just to move between sides of the airport.

Frequency is straightforward: the airport shuttle runs about every 30 minutes, with more bunching around busy bank times when lots of international flights arrive. Figure that a worst-case wait is half an hour, so if your connection is tight (under 60–70 minutes total), you might want to walk fast to the stop instead of browsing in Domestic.

Signage is clear: look for “Terminal Shuttle Bus” signs at both the Domestic and International buildings, usually near the ground floor curb. There is no ticket machine and no IC card reader; you just queue in the marked lane, board through the front or middle door when it pulls up, and hop off at the one stop it serves on the other side.

Cost is simple: the official terminal shuttle itself is free, and the “¥0.5” type prices you sometimes see online normally refer to old or mis-labeled hotel shuttles. Regulars on Japan travel forums say they skip any paid shuttle ideas altogether and pair the free terminal bus with the Fukuoka City Subway from Domestic Terminal 2 or a standard taxi from either terminal.

Hotels in Hakata or Tenjin sometimes run their own pre-booked shuttles, but these are one-off arrangements, not a shared airport system. Expect irregular schedules, limited seats, and pick-up points that change; locals on r/fukuoka usually recommend just taking the subway (about 5 minutes to Hakata Station from the Domestic terminal) instead of hunting for a hotel van.

Practical tip: if you land International and need the subway, take the 10-minute free shuttle to the Domestic terminal first, then walk straight to the subway entrance signed for “Fukuoka-kūkō Station”; you’ll be on a train toward Hakata in under 15 minutes if you don’t dawdle.
