Budget tendon in Domestic Terminal beats the fancier tempura spots
Tenya Tendon in Fukuoka Airport’s Domestic terminal is the cheap fried option when other tempura places are charging sit-down prices. It’s a national chain, so the menu is familiar if you’ve seen Tenya in Tokyo or Osaka, and sets usually land in the ¥600–¥900 range instead of four digits.
You’re airside in the Domestic area, so this works for ANA and JAL short hops inside Japan. Typical hours track with daytime departures, roughly 10:00–20:00, but aim earlier in the evening; airport branches sometimes wind down food service before the last flights. Turnover is quick because tendon is prepped in batches, so you’re usually eating in under 15 minutes from ordering.
Order the standard tendon bowl with mixed tempura if you just want a fast, salty carb hit before a flight to Tokyo or Naha. Shrimp, squid, and vegetable pieces come over rice with Tenya’s sweet-savoury tare drizzled on top. Upgrade to a set with miso soup for about ¥100–¥150 more. If you’re trying to keep things lighter, pick the vegetable-only bowl; skip extra sauce and you still stay under about 800 kcal, which is modest for fried food.
Tenya posts pictures of each bowl at the counter, with prices clearly marked in yen, usually in the ¥500–¥1,000 window. That makes it easier if you’re just off a domestic hop from Tokyo and too tired for menu translation. You order, pay at the register, grab a buzzer, and pick up at the counter when it vibrates; trays and self-water station sit just a few steps away.
Practical tip: if you’ve got a tight 30-minute connection in the Domestic terminal and still want hot food, head here instead of a full-service restaurant; tendon bowls come out fast and travel okay if you need to eat at the gate.
