Thong Thai

Terminal 1’s Thong Thai flies under the radar for most

Thong Thai sits airside in Terminal 1, but frequent FRA flyers barely mention it compared with the REWE supermarket and bakeries in the Airport City Mall. That alone tells you this is a filler option, not a destination. Expect a fast-casual counter setup with self-service seating rather than a full restaurant. You’re here because your flight from T1 is in 60–90 minutes and you want something hot without leaving the secure area.

Prices run in the mid-range for Frankfurt Airport: think roughly €11–€16 for stir-fries or noodle dishes, plus a few euros for soft drinks or bottled water. Food is generally prepped in batches, then reheated to order, so pad thai, fried rice and simple curries are the safer bets. Spice levels tend to be toned down compared with city Thai spots in Frankfurt, and you’re unlikely to find anything regional or niche on the menu.

Seating sits directly off the main Terminal 1 concourse, so you’ll hear regular boarding calls for gates in your pier and see rolling departure boards within 20–30 meters. Turnover runs fast at peak times around the 06:00–09:00 and 17:00–20:00 banks when Lufthansa and Star Alliance departures are heaviest. Plan on 20 minutes from ordering to walking away with your tray if there are five or six people ahead of you.

Given the lack of strong reviews, treat Thong Thai as a backup when the REWE at Airport City Mall closes for the night or when you don’t have the 25–30 minutes to go landside and back through Terminal 1 security. If you do eat here, stick to one main dish and skip starters that look like they’ve been sitting in the case for longer than 30 minutes. Tip: check your gate assignment first; if you’re at a far-end Z or A gate, eat here before you walk the 10–15 minutes out to the pier.
