Daily rentals with Hertz run right outside Terminal 1 arrivals
Hertz operates at Grand Bahama International Airport (FPO) directly outside Terminal 1, so you walk out of baggage claim and you’re almost at the counter within about 2 minutes. This is a standard car rental setup, not on-airport shuttles or off-airport lots. If you’re landing on an American Airlines flight from MIA, you’ll exit into the same arrivals area you use for Hertz.
Opening hours typically track the main inbound flights, roughly from the first morning arrival to the last early-evening service, but double-check exact times for late-night operations if your flight lands after 19:00. The counter is landside, before any security, so both arriving and local customers can walk up without a boarding pass. Terminal 2 passengers can still use Hertz, but you’ll need a short walk over to the Terminal 1 side.
Hertz at FPO usually stocks compact and midsize cars first, with a smaller number of SUVs and vans available, and walk-up rates can spike on holiday weekends and during peak winter months from December to March. Fuel on Grand Bahama runs higher than typical US mainland prices, so factor that into the total cost if you’re driving beyond Freeport and Lucaya. Ask clearly at the desk about insurance, as standard US auto coverage often does not extend to rentals in the Bahamas.
Expect the paperwork and key handoff to take about 10–20 minutes from reaching the counter, and vehicle pickup is in a marked lot only a short walk from the office doors. Returning the car before departure adds another 15 minutes to sign, park, and walk back into Terminal 1 check-in. Build a 45-minute buffer before an international flight check-in time so you’re not rushing through the return and baggage drop.
Practical tip: If you’re landing in Terminal 2 but renting from Hertz, plan a 5–10 minute walk to Terminal 1 and keep your driver’s license and reservation number handy so you can move straight to the counter when you arrive.
