Local Snacks Bar

Zero online chatter, but Local Snacks Bar still shows up

Post-security in T1 at Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport, Local Snacks Bar sits in the main departures area as one of the few places leaning into Madeira flavors instead of generic fast food. The name is vague, the signage can change, and there’s almost no online footprint, but airport maps still list it as “Local Snacks Bar” and the on-site boards point you there after security.

Figure on standard European airport pricing: about €3–€4 for coffee, €4–€6 for a pastry or small snack, and sandwiches creeping into the €7–€10 range. It runs on typical departure-bank hours, opening around the first morning flights (roughly 05:00–06:00) and staying open until the last scheduled departures in T1. Because there’s no public menu posted online, assume counter-service only with prices on overhead boards.

Given the “Local Snacks” name and Madeira’s usual airport offerings, expect things like bolo do caco-based sandwiches, pastel-type pastries, and packaged regional sweets alongside basic bar items. You’re still in a Schengen-side gate area, so think grab-and-go more than a long lunch. With a 5-star rating currently attached in the airport directory but no written reviews, treat that score as a placeholder, not gospel.

Ordering strategy in a place with zero reviews: keep it simple. Go for items you can see in the case, skip anything that looks like it’s been sitting since the first TP flight of the morning, and use card payment since smaller bars in Portugal sometimes run low on change for cash. If you care about Madeiran specialties more than price, prioritize local breads and sweets over generic chips or chocolate bars.

The practical move: walk past the first generic café you see in T1, check Local Snacks Bar’s counter for something Madeiran, and only then decide if it’s worth your euros before you head to your gate.
