Greyhound from FLL: workable for ultra-budget long-distance trips

If you’re stretching cash and heading up or down the Florida coast, Greyhound can work from Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport, but only with an extra step from Terminals 1–4 to the downtown bus stop. There’s no Greyhound desk or curb pickup at FLL itself, so plan on a separate local ride before you ever see the intercity coach.

Greyhound runs out of a station several miles from the airport, not from Terminal 1, 2, 3, or 4. You’ll first grab a ride-share, taxi, or local Broward County Transit bus from the airport rental car center area to get to the Greyhound stop. Build at least 30–45 minutes into your schedule for this airport-to-station hop, especially in afternoon I‑95 traffic.

Because official journey time, cost, and frequency vary by route and date, you’ll need to plug your exact city pair (for example, Fort Lauderdale–Miami or Fort Lauderdale–Orlando) and day into Greyhound’s site or app. Some routes only run a few times per day, so a missed bus can mean a 3–4 hour wait or an overnight fix. Screenshot the schedule and your ticket barcode before you leave the airport Wi‑Fi at FLL.

Pricing on Greyhound is dynamic, so that “/trip” line on a board at the station may not match what you paid online. Advance web fares can undercut walk‑up tickets by a large margin, sometimes more than 50% on longer runs like Fort Lauderdale–Tampa or Fort Lauderdale–Jacksonville. If you’re very price‑sensitive, lock it in at least a day ahead while you’re still in Terminal 2 or 3 with stable airport internet.

You won’t find Greyhound staff at FLL’s baggage claim in Terminals 1–4 to answer questions, so treat the airport and bus station as two separate trips. Check the station’s address on a map app, confirm it with your ride-share driver, and aim to arrive 30 minutes before scheduled departure for boarding and luggage tagging. One simple rule here: book a bus at least 2–3 hours after your scheduled flight arrival to leave room for delays and that extra transfer across town.

Practical tip: after landing at FLL, hit an ATM or buy a small item to break bills in Terminal 1 or 3; having smaller cash denominations makes it easier to handle the local bus or tip a taxi on the way to the Greyhound station.
