Gate-side espresso in T3: Panella keeps it old-school Roman

Panella sits airside in Terminal 3 at Fiumicino, past security and passport control, so it works for Schengen and non-Schengen departures out of T3. It’s a straight shot off the main international concourse, roughly a 3–5 minute walk from many long-haul gates. Signage in T3 is decent, but look for the Panella name rather than generic “bar” signs so you don’t end up at one of the random counters with weaker coffee.

Food is classic Italian bar fare: espresso at the counter runs about €1.30–€1.50, cappuccino around €1.80–€2.20, and pastries like cornetti or small sandwiches sit in the €2–€5 range. You’ll see the usual Roman-style baked goods and panini rather than big hot plates. Quality tracks above the average airport bar, especially if you hit it before the late-morning rush when trays are still fresh from the first batches.

Service follows standard Italian bar rules: cheaper if you drink your coffee standing at the banco, more expensive if you sit. That difference can hit €0.50–€1 per item on a coffee and pastry order. If you only have 10–15 minutes before boarding at a nearby gate, just pay at the till, plant yourself at the counter, and drink your espresso like the locals; table service slows things down.

Hours in Terminal 3 typically stretch from early morning departures around 05:00 until late-evening long-haul waves close out near 22:00–23:00, but food variety drops after about 20:00. By that time you may only find pre-made panini and packaged snacks. If you want a specific pastry or something more than a basic sandwich, target the 07:00–11:00 window.

Tip: prices and product labels are in euros at the counter, so quickly scan the line of tags before ordering; it saves you from grabbing the random €8 focaccia when the €4 panino two trays over would have done the job just as well.
