Under Terminal 1’s departures, McDonald’s is the fastest hot meal
On the landside level of Terminal 1, McDonald’s sits just before security, right by the main check-in hall. That matters at FCO, where security lines can swing from 10 to 40 minutes. If you’re checking in with ITA or another T1 carrier and want a known quantity before you queue, this is the most predictable option in that part of the building.
Pricing runs a little higher than in central Rome: expect a regular meal (burger, fries, drink) to land around €9–€11, with coffee from roughly €1.50 and breakfast items starting near €3. Menu boards show both Italian and English, and card payment works fine with foreign Visa and Mastercard. Portion sizes match standard European McDonald’s, not US sizing.
Service speed depends heavily on time of day; early mornings between 06:00 and 08:30 move quickly, while midday peaks around 12:00–14:00 can mean 10–20 minutes from queue to food. Seating is shared with the general landside food court, so at busy times you may end up eating at a high-top or carrying your tray back towards the check-in rows for space.
Food is the usual Italy McDonald’s lineup: Big Mac, McChicken, Filet-O-Fish, plus local items like the Italian-style burgers that rotate seasonally. If you just need something reliable, stick to the core burgers and fries; they taste the same as other Italian locations. Coffee is passable but not competing with the espresso bar 20–30 meters away, so use it as a backup rather than your only caffeine plan.
Practical tip: build a 25–30 minute buffer before your airline’s check-in cutoff at Terminal 1 if you plan to eat here, since you still need time to clear security and walk to your gate after you dump the tray.
