30-minute free drop-off right outside FCO Terminals 1 and 3
The Kiss and Go area at Rome Fiumicino sits directly in front of Terminals 1 and 3, giving drivers a short walk of just a few minutes to the main departures doors. It’s a pure drop-off zone, not long-stay parking, and is meant for quick goodbyes before check-in or security.
You get a strictly timed free window here: 30 minutes max from entry to exit. After that, standard airport parking tariffs kick in and are monitored automatically by license plate cameras. This keeps cars moving and stops people from treating it like an overnight lot.
Access is via the signed “Kiss & Go” lanes on the terminal access roads that feed Terminals 1 and 3. Barriers record your entry time as you drive in. Follow the lane markings closely; the regular car parks and hire car returns share some of the same approach roads and it’s easy to drift into the wrong turn if you’re watching for terminal signs instead of lane arrows.
This zone is for private vehicles only, not long-stop taxis or coaches, and airport staff move along the line regularly. Drivers need to stay near the car; this isn’t a place to leave the vehicle and accompany someone through the terminal. If your traveller needs extra assistance or is likely to repack bags at the curb, budget well under the 30-minute limit.
Tip: set a phone timer for 20 minutes the moment you cross the Kiss and Go barrier; that gives you a 10-minute buffer to say goodbye, load bags, deal with a queue at the exit barrier, and still roll out before charges start.
