Flying in late to FAT for Yosemite or Sequoia? Rent here.
The on-site Rental Car Center at Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) sits directly across from Terminal T, about a 3–5 minute walk from baggage claim. Every major counter is on airport property, so you skip any shuttle ride and go straight from carousel to keys. For national park trips, having a car is close to mandatory because Yosemite Valley is about 95 miles away and Sequoia National Park’s Foothills Entrance is roughly 75 miles from FAT.
The counters follow airport hours and usually line up with the first departures around 5:00–6:00 a.m. and the last arrivals near 11:00 p.m. Check your exact company’s desk hours before booking a 12:30 a.m. arrival, since some close earlier and switch to key-locker pickups. Cars are parked in the attached lot facing the terminal, so once you sign the contract, you’re typically driving out within 10–15 minutes.
Daily rates swing a lot by season: summer Yosemite rush and holiday weekends can push compact cars above $80–$100 per day, while midweek winter trips sometimes drop into the $40–$60 range. Full-size sedans and small SUVs are usually only $10–$25 more per day, which is worth it for Highway 41’s grades and the climb into the Sierra. Factor in roughly $5–$6 per gallon for gas in park areas compared with often lower prices in Fresno along CA-41.
If you plan to drive into Yosemite in winter, ask at pickup about M+S tires and chains; some park days require them on Highway 41, roughly 60–90 minutes after leaving FAT. For Sequoia via CA-180 and CA-198, grades and switchbacks start less than 40 miles east of the airport, so a mid-size or SUV with decent clearance helps with comfort and braking. Most agencies here disallow off-roading but have no issue with paved park roads as long as you stay within California.
Tip: Book a car with in-car navigation or plan offline maps before landing; cell coverage drops hard about 30–40 miles outside Fresno on the way to both Yosemite and Sequoia.
