Gate 3 in Terminal 1 is basically Barnstormer’s front door
Right after you clear security in Terminal 1, Barnstormer Open Coffee Bar sits near Gate 3, entirely post-security. Hours track with checkpoint opening and closing, so if TSA is running, the espresso machine usually is too. This is the main coffee option in FAR’s secure area, and it runs on a straightforward $ price tier, closer to small-town café than big-city airport markup.
The menu stays simple: drip coffee, espresso drinks, basic teas, and grab-and-go snacks. Expect filtered coffee in the $3–$4 range and milk-based drinks a couple dollars higher, which is modest for an airport with only one terminal. Don’t come in hunting for elaborate seasonal creations or cold brew flights; think practical caffeine near Gate 3 before a 6:00 a.m. departure.
With only Terminal 1 at Hector International and all commercial flights funneled through the same security zone, Barnstormer pulls a mixed crowd from Allegiant, Delta, and United departures. Seating in front of the bar fills fast around the 5:30–7:30 a.m. bank, especially at the handful of tables closest to the windows by Gate 3. If every chair is taken, most people just walk their cups over to generic gate seating and spread out.
Service runs on a small crew, so a line of six or seven deep can stretch into a 10-minute wait at peak early-morning times. After about 9:00 a.m., it usually drops to a quick in-and-out stop for a drip refill or a snack before a late-morning departure. Given the 5-star rating in a small market like Fargo, expect friendly staff and drinks made with a bit more care than big-chain airport counters.
Tip: if you want coffee in hand before boarding from Gate 3 or nearby gates 1–4, swing by Barnstormer right after clearing security rather than waiting for final boarding calls.
