Live sports and pints in DXB T1 instead of gate loitering
In Terminal T1 airside at Dubai International, McGettigan's is the Irish-style pub where people kill a 3-hour layover with football on TV and AED 45–60 pints instead of staring at FIDS. Expect a full bar, lots of screens, and that “proper pub” feel one Google review mentions, not a quick grab-and-go counter.
Menu is straight pub food: burgers, wings, and fish & chips, with mains usually in the AED 70–100 range. The food reviews sit around a 3 out of 5 rating overall: “ok, typical pub grub” is the common line, with more enthusiasm for the atmosphere than the kitchen. Portions run medium, not huge, so factor that into the higher airport pricing.
Drinks are where the bill jumps. A couple of AED 55 pints plus one main can blow past AED 150–180 per person fast. Many regulars say they come mainly for beer and sport, and only order food if they’ve got a long layover and don’t mind hanging around for prep times. If you just want one drink and a snack, split wings and call it.
Watch out: when there’s a big Premier League or rugby match on, service slows and noise climbs. Several reviews complain about waiting 20–30 minutes for food when the place is full and having to flag staff for refills. Music and commentary can be loud, so this is not a quiet email-and-salad spot.
What regulars do: turn up 30–45 minutes before kick-off to lock in a table with a clear TV view, then settle in for a couple of rounds. If your connection at DXB is under 90 minutes, skip mains and just grab a drink; pay your bill as the second pint lands so you can walk straight back to T1 security checks and boarding.
