Rideshare Varies : often less than a metered taxi

Late-night arrivals into DUS often find Uber faster than trains

Uber runs to and from Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) all day, but it’s most useful after 22:00 or before 06:00 when SkyTrain and regional rail options thin out. You get door-to-door service from Terminals A, B, or C to central Düsseldorf, nearby suburbs, or longer rides to Cologne or into the Ruhr area without changing at Düsseldorf Hbf.

Pickups start once you’ve collected bags and exited customs in Terminals A, B, or C; open the app while you’re still inside the arrivals hall. The app will direct you to a rideshare-friendly curb area near the terminal, usually within a 2–5 minute walk. Check the terminal letter on your baggage tag or boarding pass so you drop the right pickup point into the app.

Pricing is dynamic, but Uber is often cheaper than a metered taxi on longer runs over 20 km, especially to cities like Cologne (roughly 55–65 km from DUS) or Essen (about 30 km). Short hops into central Düsseldorf, around 8–9 km from the airport, can be only a little above public transit costs but with less faff when trains are on reduced schedules.

Journey time varies: into central Düsseldorf you’re usually looking at 15–25 minutes depending on A44 traffic, and 40–60 minutes to Cologne via A3 or A57. In the early morning window before 07:00, road traffic is lighter, so rides tend to skew to the lower end of those ranges, but watch for autobahn closures posted in the app’s route preview.

Compared with public transport, you trade the €3–€15 rail ticket for a higher Uber fare, but you skip the SkyTrain from the terminal to Flughafen Bahnhof and the regional train transfer at Düsseldorf Hbf. For late flights landing after 23:00, that can easily cut 20–30 minutes off total door-to-door time, especially if you’re heading to residential districts like Oberkassel or Bilk.

Tip: Order the car once you hit arrivals at Terminal A, B, or C, but don’t walk to the curb until the app shows your driver within 2–3 minutes; that keeps you out of the weather and reduces the chance of a missed pickup charge.
