Airport shuttle

Most DTW hotel shuttles pick up every 20–30 minutes

Most airport hotel shuttles at Detroit Metro run on a 20–30 minute loop and serve both McNamara and Evans terminals. Shuttles are free for registered guests and usually operate from early morning, around 4:00–5:00 a.m., until close to midnight, with a few 24-hour services near I‑94 and Merriman Road.

At McNamara, hotel shuttles use the Ground Transportation Center at the far end of the ticketing level, near Door 1 on the departures curb. Follow signs for "Hotel Shuttles"; you’ll pass the Delta check-in counters and reach the pickup lane marked for courtesy vehicles. From the farthest domestic gate to the shuttle area, plan on a 10–15 minute walk including escalators or elevator time.

At Evans, hotel shuttles stop outside the Ground Transportation area on the lower level, near Doors 401–406 on the north end of the terminal. After baggage claim, walk straight toward the exit signs and look for the green-and-white Ground Transportation graphics. From the central carousels, it takes about 5 minutes to reach the hotel shuttle island.

Most airport hotels within a 3–5 mile radius of DTW run their own branded vans, often with the hotel logo plus “DTW Shuttle” on the side. If your hotel sits along Merriman, Wick, or Smith Road, it almost always offers a free shuttle, while some downtown Detroit hotels 20+ miles away do not. Call the hotel from baggage claim if you don’t see it listed on DTW’s shuttle board.

To ride, confirm the pickup terminal, frequency, and first/last run times with the front desk; some shuttles switch to on‑demand service after 10:00 p.m. Many properties ask you to call once you land at DTW and then quote a wait of 15–25 minutes. Drivers typically load luggage for you, but tipping a few dollars per bag is standard in the Detroit area.

Step-by-step: using hotel shuttles at DTW

  • 1. Before flying, confirm with the hotel that they serve both McNamara and Evans, and note their stated pickup interval in minutes.
  • 2. After landing, check your terminal on arrival screens: Delta and international SkyTeam flights use McNamara; many other airlines use Evans.
  • 3. Collect your bags, then call the hotel from baggage claim if they require phone check-in or if service shifts to on-demand late at night.
  • 4. Follow DTW signs to "Ground Transportation" and "Hotel Shuttles"—McNamara passengers head to Door 1; Evans passengers go to the lower level near Doors 401–406.
  • 5. At the hotel shuttle island, look for vans with your hotel’s name and confirm the hotel address and your reservation with the driver before boarding.
  • 6. On the return to DTW, book a shuttle slot at check‑in or the night before; most hotels suggest leaving 90–120 minutes before departure for domestic flights and up to 3 hours for international.

One tip: if your flight lands after 11:00 p.m., call the hotel as soon as you step off the plane so your shuttle wait at DTW stays under 20 minutes.
