Tickets under $30 often beat rideshare from DTW into town

Greyhound Connections runs intercity coaches from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) into Detroit and onward to other cities, usually undercutting last-minute rideshare fares that can sit in the $40–$70 range. Coaches pick up at the Ground Transportation Center, outside both the McNamara and Evans terminals, so you don’t have to switch terminals after landing.

Most Greyhound trips serving DTW tie into the Detroit Bus Station at 1001 Howard Street, about 20 minutes from downtown by local bus or around a $10–$20 rideshare. From that hub, you’ll see departures to places like Chicago, Toledo, and Cleveland, with several runs per day on core routes and thinner schedules on late nights. Always pull up the specific date and time on the Greyhound site or app; timetables shift by day of week.

You buy DTW–Detroit tickets online through Greyhound or partner platforms, with advance purchase fares on some routes dropping into the mid-$10s. Same-day walk-up fares tend to be higher and can push above $30 on longer legs past Detroit. Drivers accept mobile tickets shown on your phone, and most coaches on these routes offer Wi‑Fi and power outlets, but bring a battery pack in case your particular bus has issues.

At McNamara, follow signs to Ground Transportation on Level 4 of the parking structure; the Greyhound stop sits near the other long-distance bus bays, with posted signs listing carriers and route numbers. At Evans, head to the Ground Transportation area across from the terminal, near the SMART and AirRide stops; look for the Greyhound logo on the shared intercity stand. Build in 10–15 minutes to walk from your gate to the pickup point at either terminal.

Coaches often run 10–20 minutes off the printed time on I‑94 corridor routes, especially during afternoon rush hours between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., so don’t cut it close on a return to DTW. Aim to be on a bus that drops you at the airport at least 2 hours before a domestic flight or 3 hours before an international departure from McNamara or Evans.

One tip: when booking online, search “Detroit Airport (DTW)” specifically, not just “Detroit,” or you’ll land at the Howard Street station by mistake and still need a 20-minute transfer back to the terminals.
