Rideshare

Some flyers open Bolt and Uber together before leaving T1.

Price‑checking Bolt against Uber and Dortmund taxis can shave a few euros off a 20–25 minute ride between Dortmund Airport (DTM) and Dortmund Hbf, which sits about 13 km away. Bolt runs as a pure app service here, so there’s no desk or counter inside T1.

Rides start from the public arrivals area in Terminal T1, just outside the main exit by the taxi rank and P1 short‑term parking. Once you exit baggage claim, you’re about a 2–3 minute walk from the pickup zone where drivers usually pull in along the terminal front road.

Bolt trips into central Dortmund often land in the €25–€35 range, similar to UberX but usually a bit lower than a metered taxi from the official stand at T1. Prices surge with football traffic on BVB home match days, especially for late evening departures after 20:00.

To use Bolt at DTM, you need mobile data or airport Wi‑Fi and a stored card or payment method in the app, since cash is not supported. The airport Wi‑Fi typically gives you at least 30 free minutes, which is enough to request a ride from the arrivals hall before you step outside.

Pickup timing is hit‑or‑miss: wait times can be under 5 minutes in daytime on weekdays, but can stretch to 15–20 minutes after 22:00 or on Sunday mornings when fewer drivers sit near T1. If you’re landing on one of the later Ryanair or Wizz Air flights, check the ETA in the app before you walk past the taxi line.

Compared with the hourly AirportExpress bus to Dortmund Hbf (about 25 minutes, fixed fare), Bolt makes more sense for groups of 3–4 people sharing the €25–€35 ride. The bus departs from directly in front of T1, so factor that into your choice if you see long Bolt ETAs.

Practical tip: Check both Bolt and Uber prices while you’re still at the baggage belt in T1 and only walk out once you see an ETA under 10 minutes locked in on one of them.
