Gate-side snack backup at DSM Terminal 1
Just past security in Terminal 1, the Vending zone fills the gaps when restaurants are closed or slammed before early morning and late-night flights. It sits along the main concourse near the gate clusters, so you can grab something in under 5 minutes and still keep an eye on boarding screens.
Machines here usually stock standard chips, candy bars, gum, and bottled drinks in the $2–$5 range. Expect the usual big-brand sodas and bottled water plus a few energy drinks; don’t expect fresh sandwiches or hot food. Bring a backup plan if you need an actual meal before a 3+ hour leg out of Des Moines.
Most machines take credit cards and mobile pay, but a couple of snack units still show “exact change only” signs when coin hoppers run low. Prices are clearly labeled on-screen before you tap, and a few items occasionally show sold-out tags after peak times around the 6:00–8:00 a.m. departures.
There’s no staff assigned directly to the Vending zone, so refunds for misvends usually mean talking to a nearby gate agent or calling the operator number printed on the machine stickers. Power outlets sit within about 20 feet of the machines, so you can charge a phone and sip a drink while you wait to board.
Tip: Hit the Vending zone right after clearing security; stock is better before the early bank of flights empties out the bottled water and energy drinks.
