Main Terminal

Main Terminal hosts 3 airlines.

Since 2017, almost all Dakar passenger flights use DSS, not DKR

The Main Terminal at Léopold Sédar Senghor International Airport (IATA: DKR, ICAO: GOOY) now sees very limited passenger use, with most regular commercial routes shifted to Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) about 50 kilometers away. DKR sits inside Dakar’s city limits in Yoff, so anyone who shows up here expecting a full-service international terminal is usually in the wrong place for scheduled flights.

Air Senegal, Corsair International, and Transair are the main airlines historically linked to DKR, but current schedules place their regular international operations at DSS rather than the Main Terminal at Léopold Sédar Senghor. Check your booking carefully for the airport code (DSS vs DKR) before leaving downtown Dakar, because a taxi between the two fields can run close to an hour in traffic.

The original Main Terminal infrastructure at DKR dates back to its role as Dakar’s primary international airport before November 2017, when Blaise Diagne officially took over as the city’s commercial hub. Since that transfer, passenger facilities such as check-in halls, departure gates, and baggage claim at DKR see sporadic use, often tied to special operations, charter movements, or domestic and regional flights rather than daily long-haul service.

Inside the Main Terminal you should not count on standard amenities like duty-free shops, branded restaurants, or airline lounges; none of these are consistently catalogued for current operations at DKR. Even basics such as staffed information desks, retail outlets, or clearly posted opening hours can be hit-or-miss, especially outside any specific charter or event-driven operation window.

For most travelers flying with Air Senegal, Corsair International, or Transair, check-in, security, and boarding now happen at Blaise Diagne International’s passenger terminals instead of DKR’s Main Terminal. That newer airport sits near Diass and is set up with modern screening lanes, multiple boarding gates, and more predictable services, while Léopold Sédar Senghor focuses largely on cargo flights and military or governmental operations.

Ground access reflects the split: DKR’s Main Terminal still connects by city streets to the Yoff neighborhood and central Dakar within roughly 15–30 minutes by car, but scheduled international passengers generally head to DSS via the toll highway, with typical road times closer to 45–60 minutes. If a ticket or airline communication explicitly lists DKR as the departure or arrival point, confirm directly with the carrier using the flight number and date before you set off.

The practical move: double-check the airport code on your e-ticket and boarding pass at least 24 hours before departure, and if anything shows “DKR” for a normal commercial route, contact the airline to verify that the flight really uses Léopold Sédar Senghor’s Main Terminal instead of Blaise Diagne.
