Old Terminal 1 gates, one main bar: that’s U Street Pub
U Street Pub sits airside in Terminal 1 at DCA, serving as the default beer-and-burger stop for the older A-gates. Expect standard bar food – burgers, wings, and fries – and a full bar, priced in the midrange $$ tier for an airport. Think “better than flying hungry,” not destination dining. TVs run sports constantly, so it doubles as a holding pen when your 6 p.m. departure starts creeping toward 7.
Menu highlights in reviews are basic: a cheeseburger with fries, wings by the basket, and the usual domestic drafts and rail drinks. Portions run decent for an airport, but several travelers call the food forgettable and a bit overpriced for what you get. If you only have 30 minutes, a single draft beer and fries is the safer order than a full entrée and cocktail.
The bar is one of the few spots in this part of Terminal 1 where you can sit down with a beer and watch the game on multiple screens. That makes it a magnet before evening bank departures and during weather delays, when it can feel cramped once two or three flights to places like ATL and CLT back up. Standing room at the rail happens more often than you’d think for an older concourse.
Service reviews are mixed: “friendly but slow” comes up a lot, with specific complaints about long waits for checks when boarding time hits the 30-minute mark. Regulars sit directly at the bar instead of grabbing a table; staff can top off your drink and close you out faster from there. Frequent flyers also ask for the check as soon as food hits the table to avoid the 10–15 minute scramble later.
Tip: if your flight from Terminal 1 is inside 45 minutes, grab a bar stool, order one drink and maybe fries or wings, and pre-request your check so you can walk straight to boarding when your group gets called.
