Spicy sambusa under $3 before security at Terminal 1

Tanzanian Snack Bar sits landside in Terminal 1, outside security, and runs daily from 6 AM to 9 PM. It’s one of the few spots in this terminal where you can grab local fast food for a true $-tier price, so it works for a cheap breakfast before a regional hop or while waiting on an arrivals pickup.

The menu leans local fast food: think spicy sambusa as the headline item, plus simple snacks and soft drinks. With the rating sitting at 5 stars in airport listings, it punches above what you expect from a small counter in an older terminal. Portions run small but prices stay low, so plan on two or three sambusa if this is your main meal.

Service is counter-only, no table service, and you’ll usually be in and out in under 10 minutes. That’s handy if you’re heading to security for a domestic connection from Terminal 1 later. Payment is typically cash-friendly, with cards accepted most of the time, but have a 10,000 TZS note on hand just in case the machine is down.

Since it’s pre-security, Tanzanian Snack Bar works best for arrivals waiting on bags or anyone meeting family at Terminal 1. Departing passengers using Terminals 2 or 3 should only stop here if they have at least an extra 45 minutes, as you’ll still need to transfer and clear security afterward.

Practical tip: order a couple of spicy sambusa to go and carry them through to your gate; they hold up fine for at least 2 hours and beat most on-board snack boxes in both taste and price.
