Prices run higher than downtown at Star Island Cafe
Star Island Cafe sits inside Cozumel International Airport’s departures area, past security, so you’re already stamped out before you reach it. It serves the usual pre-flight mix: coffee, soft drinks, beer, simple hot dishes, and grab-and-go snacks. Expect airport pricing compared with Avenida Rafael E. Melgar in town; a basic coffee can run close to double what you paid earlier in San Miguel.
This is one of the limited food options available once you clear security for US and Mexico-bound flights, so plan your meal timing around that. Star Island Cafe typically opens early in the morning to catch departures before 08:00 and stays open through the afternoon bank of flights, then slows down after the last departures around 18:00–19:00. If you have a midday departure, this is likely the only full counter you’ll see near your gate.
Menu boards usually cover simple sandwiches, burgers, and breakfast plates, plus bottled water and beers like Corona and Modelo. A sandwich or burger can easily hit the 200–250 MXN range, and domestic beers often sit around 80–100 MXN. Portions skew toward “hold-you-over” rather than full restaurant size, so don’t count on a big sit-down lunch here before a long-haul connection out of Mexico City or Dallas.
Seating runs along the terminal side of the cafe with a mix of bar stools and small tables, mostly within sight of nearby gates used by airlines like American, United, Delta, and low-cost Mexican carriers. Power outlets are limited to a few wall spots, and they’re standard 110V US-style; bring a charged power bank if your layover is longer than 90 minutes. Noise from boarding calls in the single concourse carries straight into the seating area, so headphones help.
Tip: Eat your main meal in town before heading to CZM, then use Star Island Cafe for a coffee, water, or one last beer while you watch for your flight on the departure screens.
