TEC A1

Bus

Bus 30 min

30-minute TEC A1 bus is the cheap link to Charleroi-Sud

On a tight budget and fine with mixing bus and train, the TEC A1 runs between Brussels South Charleroi Airport and Charleroi-Sud rail station in about 30 minutes. The bus stops right outside T1 and T2 arrivals, so you roll out of baggage claim, follow signs for “Bus TEC,” and you’re usually on an A1 within one regular headway window.

The TEC A1 runs every day with regular frequencies that sync decently with daytime arrivals into CRL T1 and T2. Service typically runs from early morning to late evening, giving you coverage for most Ryanair-style departures and returns. If you land late after 22:00, check the TEC timetable, as gaps get longer and you don’t want to be stranded outside T1 counting on a bus that already made its last run.

Tickets for TEC A1 cost far less than the dedicated Brussels coach, especially if you’re a solo traveler piecing together A1 plus an SNCB train from Charleroi-Sud to Brussels-Midi. You can usually buy a ticket from the machine near the bus bays outside T1, or pay via TEC options valid on line A1. Keep a few euros ready in case the machine near T2 is out of order and you need to walk back toward the main stop by T1.

From Charleroi-Sud, the train to Brussels-Midi runs roughly every 30 minutes in the daytime, so the 30-minute A1 ride plus rail timing lines up fairly cleanly. Figure about 1 hour total airport-to-Brussels-Midi if your transfer at Charleroi-Sud is smooth, and pad 15 extra minutes if you’re catching an IC train toward Liège or Namur. Build the buffer if you’re holding a non-flex ticket for a specific departure slot.

Boarding is simple: buses line up at the marked TEC stop outside terminal T1, with A1 clearly shown on the front display, and luggage goes with you into the cabin rather than in an underfloor hold. If the first A1 looks packed with airport staff finishing a shift around 17:00, wait for the next one; with regular service, that usually costs you only one headway. Final tip: screenshot the TEC A1 timetable before you land at CRL so you’re not stuck hunting for airport Wi‑Fi outside T1 in the cold.
