Rideshare

Rideshare Varies by destination

Rideshare works well here if you already live in the apps

On both Uber and Bolt, most city runs from Cape Town International Airport (CPT) land in the R150–R350 range, depending on time of day and traffic. Rideshare is available for both Domestic and International arrivals, but drivers cannot collect you directly outside the terminal doors. You book in-app as usual, then walk to the signed rideshare pickup areas before the car moves toward you.

From International arrivals, plan on a 3–5 minute walk to the rideshare pickup zone in the main public forecourt. From Domestic, exit toward the central terminal forecourt and follow the rideshare signs; again, count on 3–5 minutes on foot with bags. The apps show the pickup pin near the main drop-off and pickup roadway, not at the baggage claim exit, so zoom the map and match what you see with the terminal signage.

Price-wise, UberX and Bolt standard usually undercut the official airport taxis by roughly R50–R150 on a typical city trip. A run to the City Bowl can sit anywhere from about 20 to 45 minutes in normal traffic, while a ride to Camps Bay or Sea Point often stretches to 30–50 minutes at peak. Late-night rides to central Cape Town are usually quicker, often under 25 minutes door to door.

Both apps use card or app-based payments, so you don’t need the ATM at CPT if you already have a working card on file. You can also pay cash with some options, but check in the app before confirming. Data helps a lot here: Vodacom, MTN, and Telkom SIMs all pull signal in the forecourt, and airport Wi‑Fi usually covers the arrivals hall but gets patchy outside, so get your app set while still inside the terminal.

Solo riders generally stick to UberX or the Bolt base tier; small groups might do better on UberXL if bags are large or if more than three people share. For very late arrivals after 23:00, expect slightly higher pricing from surge and fewer cars nearby, especially compared with the 16:00–19:00 window when airport demand spikes. Always match the registration plate and driver name in the app with the car that pulls up before you load your bags.

Practical tip: Call or in-app chat your driver once you reach the forecourt, mention “CPT main rideshare pickup by Domestic,” and stand by a clear landmark like the level-0 curb sign to cut down on circling and extra wait charges.
