Long Stay Parking

Long stay

R500 covers a full week in Long Stay (Car Park 5)

Long Stay Parking at Cape Town (Car Park 5) is the airport’s budget lot for trips of five days or more, with a weekly cap of about R500 and a block rate of R432 for the first 0–5 days. It sits roughly 0.5 miles from the Domestic and International terminals, and the airport quotes about a 10-minute walk to the check-in halls.

Pricing runs on a sliding scale: the R432 block works out to around R86 per day if you park exactly five days, then drops to about R72 per extra day after that. If you only need two or three days, regulars say the P1/P2 parkade daily caps compete better on cost, especially for a Friday–Sunday or long-weekend trip.

This is an uncovered long-stay surface lot, not a multi-level parkade, and one local blogger calls it “by far the cheapest if you’re gone a week or more” compared with the on-airport daily options. It’s part of the official CPT parking system, so you take a ticket at entry and pay at exit in rand; current information says there’s no online prebooking discount for this lot.

The walk from Car Park 5 to the Domestic and International terminal doors takes around 8–10 minutes at a normal pace, and some South African travel sites mention it can feel exposed and remote at night. Solo travellers often time their walk to match visible foot traffic from the same lot, especially after late evening arrivals around 22:00–23:00.

Tip: Run the maths: if your trip hits five days or longer, use Long Stay; for anything under that, check the daily caps in P1/P2 before defaulting to Car Park 5.
