Only sit-down bar past TSA, right by Gate 1
High Porch Sports Bar and Restaurant sits just past security in the Main Terminal, near Gate 1, and it’s the only true sit-down spot in the concourse. Hours run from 10:30 a.m. to last departure daily, so it misses the earliest flights but covers the midday and evening banks. Think basic airport bar setup: TVs with whatever game is on, standard drafts, and typical fryer and grill fare.
Menu reports mention burgers, chicken tenders, fries, and simple salads in the $$ range, pricier than Cedar Rapids in-town bars but normal for a small airport. Drinks follow the same pattern: domestic beers, basic cocktails, and a couple of seltzers. Nothing you’d drive to the airport for, but it beats eating granola bars at Gate 3. If you want a real plate and a beer after TSA, this is your only option.
Seating gets tight during the evening departure bank, especially around those 5:00–7:00 p.m. regional flights. Regulars say stools at the bar go first, then the small tables along the rail facing the concourse. When flights to ORD, MSP, and DEN line up, expect to see carry-on bags parked around every chair. If you care about a seat, plan to be there 45 minutes before your flight’s boarding time.
What people actually order: simple burgers, fries, and a draft beer, then they watch the board for their 6:15 p.m. departure. Portions read as decent but not huge, so don’t expect a massive platter. Most complaints focus on price relative to Cedar Rapids bars in town, not on food quality. This is airport-markup territory, not a scam.
Regular CID flyers either eat in town and use High Porch for a quick drink, or they clear security around 60–75 minutes before departure and sit here instead of at the gate. One practical move: check your gate on the screens by security, then head straight to High Porch, pay your tab when you get your food, and keep an eye on the nearby Gate 1 monitors so you can walk over the moment boarding starts.
