Past-security burgers at CHS mostly means Burger King
Once you clear Main Terminal security at Charleston (CHS), Burger King is the default fast-food burger option on the concourse. It sits airside with the other chain spots, so you don’t have to double back to the pre-security food court. If the local barbecue or seafood places have 30–40 minute waits, this is where people end up for a quick Whopper and fries before boarding.
Pricing runs higher than street-side: expect around $8–$10 for a basic burger or chicken sandwich, and $12–$14 for a combo with fries and a drink. The menu hits the usual notes – Whopper, Double Whopper, chicken sandwiches, nuggets, and breakfast sandwiches before about 10:30 a.m. It’s the only spot past security doing flame-grilled burgers under a national brand name.
Hours track with flight banks, generally opening early enough for the 6:00–7:00 a.m. departures and staying open into the late evening push around 9:00–10:00 p.m. On peak travel days (summer Saturdays and Sunday afternoons), lines can stack 10–15 people deep during the 4:00–6:00 p.m. rush. If you’re tight on time and see a long queue, you’re probably looking at a 10–20 minute wait from joining the line to getting your bag.
Stick to the core items that hold up under airport volume: Whopper, fries, and fountain drinks. Custom add-ons and special limited-time builds can slow your order when there are only 2–3 staff on the line. Breakfast is simpler: egg-and-cheese croissan’wiches and hash browns usually move quickly and come out reasonably hot.
One practical play: if your gate is close and you’ve got a 30–40 minute buffer before boarding, order your combo to go, grab napkins and ketchup packets at the counter, and eat at the gate so you keep an eye on any sudden gate changes on the CHS monitors.
