Metro Bus 8 Airport–Halswell runs from outside Door 9 on the ground floor of T (international terminal) and goes straight through the southwest suburbs to Halswell. The line operates roughly every 30 minutes on weekdays and weekends during the day, so it works well if you land into CHC without checked bags or you’re used to local buses.
Tap-on fares with a Metrocard sit around NZD $2–$3, while a cash ticket on Bus 8 from the airport is higher, closer to the NZD $4–$5 range. You pay the driver when boarding if using cash, and exact change speeds things up because the bus still boards from a single front door. Compared with a NZD $35–$50 taxi into Halswell, this is the budget move.
The first Bus 8 departures usually start around 6:00–6:30am, with last services toward Halswell running close to 11:00pm, but Sunday and public holiday timetables thin out.
