Metro Bus 29 runs through eastern suburbs like Linwood and Aranui, then out to Christchurch Airport’s T terminal in about 30 minutes from the city end of the route. It’s a regular orange Metro service, not a premium airport coach, so it slots easily into everyday commutes and long stays where you’re already using local buses and don’t mind a transfer.

The 29 connects the airport with stops along Pages Road, Linwood Avenue, and the city side of Brighton, so it lines up well if you’re staying in that corridor for a week or more. You pay normal Metro fares with your Metrocard or cash, the same as any other city route, which usually comes out cheaper than an airport‑branded bus or a taxi from those suburbs.

Service runs throughout the day with scheduled trips roughly every 30 minutes in daytime peaks, tapering off a bit in the evenings and on Sundays. Check the current timetable on the MetroInfo site or app before you commit, especially for flights leaving after 21:00, as late services thin out and you might need to back‑time from the last bus that actually reaches the terminal.

At Christchurch Airport, Bus 29 uses the marked bus stops by the public transport zone outside terminal T, a short, flat walk of a few dozen metres from the arrivals area. The stop is shared with other Metro routes, so double‑check the electronic sign and the 29 number on the front of the bus before you tap on and throw your luggage into the wheelchair/buggy space.

If you’re starting in another part of town, you can feed into the 29 using routes that cross Linwood Avenue or reach the central city bus interchange on Lichfield Street. This lets you avoid the higher fare on the dedicated airport line, at the cost of one extra transfer and 5–15 extra minutes of total travel time depending on how clean your connection is.

One simple tip: aim to be on a Bus 29 that gets to the airport at least 90 minutes before a domestic flight and 2.5 hours before an international flight, which gives you a buffer for a missed connection or a delayed bus without turning the day into a sprint through terminal T.
