Gate-side at Terminal 1, Heinemann Duty Free is your main stop for last‑minute buys
Right after security in Terminal 1, Heinemann Duty Free anchors the central airside shopping area and is hard to miss on the walk to most gates. This is the airport’s primary duty-free option, so if you want tax-free bottles or sweets, this is where you do it before boarding from T1 at Cologne Bonn (CGN).
Liquor and wine usually come in standard 1L duty-free bottles, with promos often around 2-for deals that undercut German high street prices by a few euros. You’ll find the usual Scotch, vodka, gin and liqueur brands plus some German staples like Jägermeister. If you need gifts under €15, head straight for the confectionery shelves near the front, stacked with Ritter Sport, Haribo and boxed chocolates in airport-friendly sizes.
Cosmetics and perfume sit in the middle of the shop, with big-label counters and frequent “30% off vs downtown” stickers on selected items. Prices aren’t always better than a Douglas store in Cologne city, but combo sets and 50 ml bottles can be good value. If you’re short on liquids space, look for smaller travel-size items under 100 ml so they still work hand luggage-only on your return legs.
Payment is straightforward: cards are widely accepted, including contactless and mobile pay, and euro cash works at all tills. Queues build in the 06:00–08:00 and 17:00–19:00 waves when multiple Eurowings flights go out from Terminal 1. If your gate prints as “B” or “C” in T1, plan an extra 10 minutes here so you’re not rushing your purchase at final call.
Final tip: if you want duty-free liquids and are connecting onward in the EU, ask staff for a STEB security bag with receipt inside so your 1L bottles survive the next security check.
