Airport Skytrain

Inter-terminal rail

Inter-terminal rail A few minutes between adjacent terminals once onboard; overall transfer may take 10–20 minutes including waits Free

Free rides link Terminals 1, 2, 3 and the Railink

The Airport Skytrain runs a short loop between Terminals 1, 2, and 3 at CGK and the Railink station, and it’s free, so it’s the cleanest way to dodge the crowded internal shuttle buses and airport road traffic.

Trains usually show up about every 10 minutes in daytime and evening hours, but there’s no clearly posted full timetable, so treat the “every 10 minutes” as an estimate rather than a promise.

The actual ride between adjacent terminals only takes a few minutes, yet a full terminal-to-terminal transfer can stretch to 10–20 minutes once you add platform walks and waiting time.

The system is a small automated people mover with limited seating and mostly standing room; think metro car, not full commuter train, which matters if you’re hauling two 23 kg checked bags and a carry-on.

Operations line up with normal flight banks and Railink departures, but the skytrain does not run 24 hours, so very early morning or post-midnight connections may dump you back to shuttle buses or taxis outside.

How to ride it, step by step

  • 1. Follow signs from arrivals: From Terminals 1, 2, or 3, follow signs for “Skytrain / Kereta Layang” or the Railink symbol; in T3 the walkway to the skytrain platform can take 5–10 minutes on foot.
  • 2. Head to the correct platform: Platforms are direction-specific, usually marked for T1/T2 or T3/Railink; double-check the electronic sign before you board so you don’t end up looping the wrong way.
  • 3. Wait for the next train: Expect about a 10-minute headway during busier daytime periods, but off-peak gaps can run longer, so don’t cut a Railink departure closer than 20–30 minutes.
  • 4. Board quickly and move inside: Doors stay open only a short time; step in, move away from the doors, and grab a pole or one of the few seats if you’re tired from a 12-hour flight.
  • 5. Ride to your stop and exit: Listen for the automated announcements naming Terminals 1, 2, or 3 and the Railink station, then exit promptly and follow the terminal or Railink signs for another 5–10 minutes of walking.

What regulars do and what to watch

Frequent CGK users landing in Terminal 3 for the Railink typically pad 20–30 minutes into their plan just for the skytrain and the walk from platform to the Railink ticket area.

The main complaint is signage: travellers often mention confusion about which platform goes to which terminal, so always read the destination boards instead of trusting the crowd in front of you.

One tip: if your Railink departure is inside 15 minutes and the next skytrain still hasn’t appeared, skip it and grab a metered taxi or official shuttle instead of gambling on missing a fixed train time.
