Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport Passenger Terminal

7 airlines

Terminal MAIN hosts 7 airlines.

Ten gates, one checkpoint, and every airline funneled through it

The Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport passenger terminal runs as a single compact lodge-style building, with Alaska, Allegiant, American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, and United all sharing the same main concourse. All departures go through one TSA checkpoint, and there is no priority line at all, even for PreCheck, elites, or premium cabins. Gates sit within a short walk of each other, so once you clear security, you’re rarely more than a couple of minutes from your door.

Security gets the most complaints here, with FlyerTalk users calling the line “ridiculously slow” and noting that TSA often reruns bags and then hand-searches them. Regulars out of BZN say they budget more time here than at other airports of similar size and tell friends not to cut it close, even for early morning departures. If you’re used to relying on a premium or elite lane elsewhere, adjust your timing by at least 20–30 extra minutes at this single checkpoint.

The layout is simple: one main public hall with check-in counters for all seven airlines lined in a row, baggage claim on the ground level, and the shared concourse beyond the single security zone. There are no separate North/South wings or satellite terminals, just one continuous pier with gates clustered near the windows that face the airfield. Walking from the first to the last gate usually takes under five minutes at an easy pace.

Food options inside this terminal shift a bit by season, and reviews often say travelers “didn't see much of it,” which tells you there’s not a dense restaurant lineup. Expect a small bar-and-grill type spot near the center gates and a coffee counter closer to the pre-security check-in area, not a row of national chains every 100 feet. Prices run in typical small-airport territory, so think $12–$18 for basic bar food and $4–$6 for coffee drinks when stands are open.

You won’t find airline lounges here, so Alaska, Delta, and United elites board from the same gate areas as everyone else and camp in regular seating near the windows. Power outlets sit sporadically along the concourse, often in newer seating clusters closer to the mid-gates, so it’s worth walking an extra two or three minutes if your first area looks full. If you need quiet, look for empty seats near the end gates that aren’t in use for the next hour.

Shopping is minimal in the terminal, usually a single newsstand-style shop and a small Montana-themed gift store close to the central concourse area. Expect basic magazines, snacks, and bottled drinks, along with local items like huckleberry candy and Yellowstone T-shirts. If you want a real grocery run or outdoor gear beyond a souvenir T-shirt, plan that in town, not at the airport.

On arrival, baggage claim sits directly below the check-in area, and car rental counters line the same level only a short walk from the carousels. Frequent flyers point out that the rental car lots are directly outside the terminal doors, so you can walk to your vehicle in under five minutes with no shuttle ride. Several major rental brands operate here, and during peak Yellowstone months in June through August, having a confirmed reservation is smarter than trying to grab a walk-up rate.

Departing drivers come in off Interstate 90, use the main entrance on Aero Drive, and usually find parking in the lots directly opposite the terminal, within a few hundred feet of the doors. Short-term parking works for drop-offs and quick trips, while long-term sits just a bit farther back at lower daily rates published on the airport site. In winter, give yourself extra margin for icy roads between Bozeman, Big Sky, or West Yellowstone and the field itself.

Tip: build the buffer at security here; treat BZN like a much bigger airport and show up at least 90 minutes before a domestic flight in shoulder season and closer to two hours in peak Yellowstone months.
