Passenger Terminal

3 airlines

Terminal MAIN hosts 3 airlines.

All three airlines at BRO share one compact Main Terminal

The single Passenger Terminal at Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport (BRO) handles every flight for American Airlines, United Airlines, and Aerus, so there’s no terminal choice to make before you leave for the airport.

The current terminal opened after 2021, so the building feels relatively new compared with older regional airports in Texas, and all check-in counters sit along one short departures hall instead of being scattered across multiple concourses.

Security is straightforward: there’s one TSA checkpoint serving all gates, and on a normal morning or midday bank the line stays short enough that 30 minutes curb to gate usually works, though early Monday flights to Dallas or Houston can bunch up.

Gate areas sit just beyond security in a single post-security zone, with American and United using neighboring gates for their regional jets and Aerus operating from nearby positions, so walking time from security to the farthest gate is usually under 5 minutes.

Food options inside the terminal are limited; with no named restaurants or national chains listed for BRO as of 2024, plan to eat in Brownsville or near South Padre Island before you arrive and treat anything past security as backup only.

There are no catalogued lounges in the Passenger Terminal, so American Admirals Club, United Club, and Priority Pass members are all sitting at the regular gate seating or café-style tables if available.

Shopping is also minimal; with no dedicated retail brands on current airport maps, expect just basic travel essentials and maybe a small stand for snacks rather than full newsstands or souvenir shops.

Ground transport lines up directly outside the single arrivals curb, and the consolidated rental car area for the Main Terminal keeps the walk short if you’re picking up a vehicle to drive the roughly 25 miles to South Padre Island.

All checked baggage for American, United, and Aerus comes out on a single baggage claim area, so once you spot the carousel number on the overhead monitors, you can stand anywhere and still see your bags come off quickly on typical regional traffic loads.

If you have an evening departure after 7:00 p.m., plan ahead for food and drinks in town; smaller airports like BRO often close concessions earlier than big hubs, and you don’t want to rely on the last open counter for a full meal.
