Gate A at tiny Bern T1 basically means Flughafen Cafe
This is the main sit-down option in BRN’s T1, just past security near the single gate area, so you’re eating within sight of boarding calls. It runs through the main flight bank in the morning and afternoon; expect shorter hours on quiet days, so don’t bank on a late-night meal after the last departure. Seating is limited, and at peak times with two flights around the same hour, every table fills fast.
Menu is straightforward Swiss café: espresso drinks, teas, soft drinks, local beer, plus simple plates and snacks. Prices sit in the typical Swiss airport range: plan on around CHF 5–6 for a coffee, CHF 8–12 for pastries or small bites, and CHF 15–20 for more substantial dishes when available. Nothing here is destination dining, but if you want a sit-down coffee rather than grabbing something from a vending machine or kiosk, this is your spot.
Food leans on cold options like sandwiches, pastries, and basic snacks, which works if you have 20–30 minutes before boarding. Hot food isn’t guaranteed at off-peak times, especially in mid-afternoon once the main wave of flights has left. If you need something quick before a SkyWork-era-style turboprop hop or a regional departure, order at the counter, pay immediately, and keep an ear on the single set of gate announcements carrying across T1.
Because Bern Airport is small, there’s no lounge in T1 and no other full café once you clear security, so Flughafen Cafe effectively fills that role. You’ll find a few power outlets along the wall seating, but not at every table, and standard European sockets only. The Wi‑Fi in the terminal covers the cafe area, so you can sit here with a laptop for 30–40 minutes if you’re early.
Tip: if your flight boards from the only gate cluster at the far end of T1, pay your bill 10 minutes before scheduled boarding; the walk from Flughafen Cafe to any gate in BRN takes under 3 minutes, but boarding here often starts early.
