Lyft rides from BOS often undercut Uber by $5–$15

Massport treats Lyft the same as Uber at Boston Logan: both use the signed “App Ride/TNC” pickup areas outside Terminals A, B, C, and E. r/boston users say they routinely open both apps at BOS and tap on whichever is cheaper for a Back Bay or Cambridge run.

From Logan to Cambridge, one Reddit rider reported Lyft at roughly $10 less than Uber on a weekday evening, so they now check both before leaving baggage claim. Expect typical BOS–downtown or Cambridge fares to swing a lot with traffic and weather; this is pure dynamic pricing, not flat-rate taxi-style.

Pickup is never curbside at arrivals: follow “App Ride/TNC” signs from A, B, C, or E toward the designated islands or garage levels Massport assigns. Flyers complain in the same threads about ending up on the wrong level or island, then watching the driver circle for 5–10 minutes while the app shows “arrived.”

Lyft uses the same dynamic surge logic as Uber, and r/boston is full of screenshots where one app shows a brutal spike after a 10 p.m. Europe bank while the other looks normal. If you see a 2–3x style surge to Somerville, regulars just switch apps or punt to the free Silver Line SL1 to South Station or the Blue Line from Airport station.

Driver coverage can feel thinner on Lyft late at night. Some locals note that at 12–1 a.m. from Terminal E, Lyft might quote a 5-minute ETA but the car takes closer to 10–15 minutes, while Uber cars are visibly stacked in the same zone. Have both apps installed so you can bail if the Lyft wait drags.

Complaints overlap with Uber: drivers asking you to walk to a different island, cancellations if the Terminal B or C pickup lane is jammed, and rebooking that adds another 5–10 minutes. A few Reddit posts mention giving the exact island letter and level by text the moment the ride is accepted to cut down on confusion.

Regular BOS riders burn corporate or card-linked Lyft credits on airport trips to offset the premium over the $2.40 Blue Line fare from Airport station. Some locals even walk airside or landside from, say, Terminal C to the Terminal A or E app-ride area if their own zone looks overwhelmed, shaving a few minutes off pickup at rush hour.

Tip: Before you leave the gate, check both Lyft and Uber for BOS–home price and ETA, screenshot the better deal, then start walking to the signed app-ride zone for your terminal.
