Trains run every 15 minutes from BNE to Brisbane City
Airtrain runs between Brisbane Airport and Brisbane City from around 5:00 to 22:00 daily, with services every 15 minutes in peak times. The line connects both International and Domestic terminals directly to Central, Fortitude Valley, South Bank and the Gold Coast line. Trip to Brisbane Central takes about 20 minutes from the Domestic terminal and about 25 minutes from International.
Both terminals have their own Airtrain stations linked by covered walkways; allow about 5 minutes on foot from the International arrivals hall and 3–5 minutes from Domestic. Trains are standard suburban-style, so think 2–3 bags per person, not full tour-group luggage. There’s basic air-conditioning and priority seating, but no dedicated luggage racks on every carriage.
Standard one-way fares to Brisbane City usually sit in the AUD $20–$25 range from the airport, with discounts if you book online in advance or use a go card. Kids often travel at reduced fares, and off-peak pricing can cut the cost a bit more. You tap on and off using go card readers at the platform gates, or scan barcodes if you bought a digital ticket.
Airtrain services run along the Gold Coast line, so you can ride directly from the airport to Helensvale, Nerang and Varsity Lakes without changing in Brisbane during most daytime services. For Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach you transfer from Helensvale station to the G:link tram, which adds about 20–30 minutes to the overall trip. Last trains from the airport to the Gold Coast usually leave before 22:00, so check the timetable if you land late.
The stations at both International and Domestic are fully within the airport precinct, so no extra shuttle needed. Lifts and ramps are in place, but if you’re moving with prams or heavy bags, budget an extra 5–10 minutes to reach the platform and get settled on the train. There are ticket machines at each station entrance that accept cards and cash, but contactless and go card are faster during busy morning and evening banks.
Practical tip: If you land around 21:00, check the Airtrain timetable before you leave the gate; missing the last service by 5 minutes can turn a $25 train ride into a $60+ rideshare.
