BMTC Vayu Vajra KIA-8

Airport bus

Airport bus 75-120 min ₹250-300

₹250–300 gets you from BLR to Whitefield in AC comfort

BMTC’s Vayu Vajra KIA-8 is the airport bus line for the eastern IT belt — think KR Puram, ITPL, Whitefield, Kadugodi. Buses run roughly every 30–45 minutes, and the ride takes about 75–120 minutes depending on traffic. If cab prices are surging above ₹1,000, this is the budget move that still keeps you in air conditioning.

KIA-8 serves both T1 and T2. After baggage claim, follow the “Airport Bus” signs to the BMTC bays outside arrivals; look for buses clearly marked KIA-8 on the LED board. Services run roughly 24 hours, but late-night gaps can stretch closer to 45 minutes, so grab a quick chai or water near the bay if you’ve just missed one.

A one-way KIA-8 ticket usually costs around ₹250–300, paid directly to the conductor in cash or via common UPI apps (ask before you sit). Keep small notes like ₹100s and ₹50s; conductors sometimes struggle with change for bigger bills. You don’t need to prebook, and even at evening peaks there’s usually some standing room left.

Plan for the full 2 hours during office rush, especially around KR Puram and ITPL, where Reddit users report crawling traffic that pushes door-to-door time right up to the top of the 75–120 minute band. If you land between 16:00 and 20:00 on weekdays, don’t stack tight meetings or kid pickup directly after this ride.

Announcements on some buses are either too quiet or dead, so people miss their stops near Garudachar Palya or ITPL. Regulars say they just stand closer to the front and tell the driver or conductor their exact stop when boarding; they’ll usually call it out a minute or two before. Back this up by tracking KIA-8 on Google Maps so you know when your stop is 500–800 meters away.

Watch out for large luggage: KIA-8 has under-seat and front space, but once more than 3–4 bags are on board it gets awkward. If two of you have big check-in suitcases from T2, board early in the queue so you can claim the front luggage spots. Last tip: if your flight departs from BLR, board an earlier KIA-8 by at least one bus slot on workday evenings; traffic plus security at T1/T2 can eat your buffer fast.
