Gate-side greens in T1
Right in BJX T1 after security, Salad Bar is the rare place in a Mexican regional airport that actually leans healthy: think build-your-own salads instead of fried everything. It sits in the main departures area, so you can keep an eye on boarding calls while you eat and still be at your gate in under 3 minutes in this compact terminal.
Hours run roughly 09:00 to 19:00, so it covers most daytime departures but not the first and last flights. Pricing lands in the mid-range: expect about US$8–12 (roughly 140–220 MXN) for a salad, which is higher than a basic torta stand in town but normal for airport food. It’s a better call than grabbing candy and chips from the newsstand and calling that lunch.
The signature Caesar Salad is the move here. Portions are solid for the price tier, and you can usually add chicken for a bit more if you want actual protein instead of just lettuce and croutons. Dressings skew on the heavier side, so if you’re heading into a 3-hour AM flight to Mexico City or Dallas, ask them to go light or put it on the side.
Seating is shared with nearby T1 food outlets, with mostly standard metal chairs and a few high-tops. Power outlets are hit-or-miss, and Wi‑Fi in BJX can get spotty when multiple flights bank around the 17:00–18:00 wave. Figure 15–20 minutes from ordering to being fully done, so it works on a 60-minute connection, but feels tight if you’re landing late off a Volaris hop.
Tip: BJX security lines can spike to 20–25 minutes around the 10:00–12:00 rush, so clear first, then eat at Salad Bar with your bag packed and boarding pass already pulled up.
