Private transfer 15-20 min /25-30

Most Bilbao hotels simply don’t run airport shuttles from BIO

Figure on a 15–20 minute ride from Bilbao Airport (BIO, T1) into the city, but in almost all cases you’re doing that by taxi or bus 3247, not in a hotel shuttle. FlyerTalk hotel threads and r/Spain posts barely mention hotel vans at all; people talk taxis at around €25–30 or the A3247 bus instead.

Hotel shuttles here are basically private transfers laid on for specific events, not a standing service every 30 minutes like at a US airport. Business hotel reviews mention chartered coaches for conferences that run only for the 3–4 days of the event, then vanish. If you’re not on that attendee list, the “shuttle” doesn’t exist for you.

When a hotel does arrange a private transfer, it usually means a coach or minibus waiting outside T1’s arrivals area, coordinated with one flight time and then leaving once the group is complete. One Google review of a riverfront hotel notes a conference coach that waited until the last attendee landed, adding almost 30 minutes at the curb. Regulars on r/travel say they sometimes skip that and split a taxi instead.

Don’t assume that a €150+ riverside or Guggenheim-area hotel comes with a free van from the airport; several TripAdvisor and Google reviewers complain that even upscale properties on the Nervión just point them to bus 3247. One guest at Hotel Nervión said front desk staff explicitly recommended the public bus and mentioned its stop opposite the terminal.

What locals and repeat visitors actually do: they land at T1, glance at the A3247 timetable with its roughly 15-minute headways, and then choose between that and a metered taxi. Regulars on FlyerTalk say they “never even ask” about shuttles anymore and budget the €3–4 bus fare or €25–30 taxi as part of the trip.

Practical tip: Before you land, email your hotel and ask one direct question: “Do you have a scheduled shuttle from BIO T1, yes or no?” If the reply mentions taxis, buses, or “private transfer on request,” plan on arranging your own ride at the curb.
