The Scoreboard

Main Terminal sports bar with airport runway views

The Scoreboard sits in the Main Terminal at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM), past the main security checkpoint and near the central concourse area. It runs on typical airport hours, generally opening by the first bank of departures around 5:00–5:30 a.m. and staying open through the last evening flights. You don’t need to leave the secure side, so it works for both early-morning and late-night connections.

This is a sports-bar setup: plenty of TVs tuned to ESPN and live games, draft beer, and standard bar food. Expect typical airport pricing, with burgers and sandwiches landing in the roughly $12–$18 range before tax and tip, and domestic beers a few dollars cheaper than imports or cocktails. Seating is a mix of high-tops and bar stools, useful if your gate in the Main Terminal area is crowded.

Menu lineups at BHM skew toward classic pub items, so think burgers, chicken tenders, wings, and fries rather than anything regional like Alabama barbecue. Portions tend to be large enough that one burger and an order of fries can easily cover a long layover of 90 minutes or more. If you’re on a shorter turn of 45 minutes or less, stick to starters or wings that usually come out faster than grilled items.

Because The Scoreboard is inside security in the Main Terminal, it’s an easy spot to park with a drink if your flight out of gates in the same area posts a delay of 30–60 minutes. Service pace tracks with departure banks: slower and more relaxed mid-morning between the first and second waves of flights, and much busier around the 6:00–8:00 a.m. and 4:00–6:00 p.m. peaks.

Practical tip: grab a seat where you can see both the TV screens and the nearest departure board, then put in your food order before opening a second drink so you can walk out within 10–15 minutes of your meal hitting the table.
