Salad-and-snack vending at Main Terminal security

Right past TSA in the Main terminal, Farmer's Fridge is a self-serve vending machine stocked with salads, grain bowls, yogurt, and small snacks. It’s grab-and-go only, no seating, and works well if you have a 10–15 minute window before boarding and don’t want fried food from the food court.

Each item comes in a clear plastic jar with a printed date, and most salads run around the price of a basic airport sandwich. You’ll usually see options like a chicken salad, a vegetarian grain bowl, fruit cups, and basic snacks such as trail mix. Portions skew “light meal” rather than “big lunch,” so plan on one jar plus a snack if you’re really hungry before a 2–3 hour flight.

The machine runs 24/7, which helps on the 5:00–6:00 a.m. bank when a lot of Main terminal counters are still waking up. Payment is card or mobile wallet only; there’s no cash slot. The touchscreen lets you tap through photos and ingredients before you pay, useful if you’re watching sodium or avoiding nuts, dairy, or gluten.

Freshness is tracked automatically: the company pulls items after a certain number of days and updates inventory remotely. Still, at a smaller airport like BHM, turnover might be slower on mid-day Tuesdays than Monday mornings, so check the date sticker before you tap your card. If the machine glitches or eats your payment, there’s a support number and QR code on the front panel.

Plan one extra stop: there’s no built-in drink service, so grab water or coffee from a nearby Main terminal stand before you head to your gate with your salad jar.
