Main Terminal brings you Char Bar for a sit-down meal

Char Bar sits airside in the Main terminal at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth (BHM), one of the few spots where you can actually sit, order, and watch your gate on the same side of security. It runs through the main part of the day, roughly matching peak departure banks, so you’re covered for lunch and early dinner before those Delta and American flights start boarding.

Menu pricing lands in typical airport territory: think around $12–$18 for burgers, sandwiches, and salads, with soft drinks near $3 and domestic beers closer to $7. Expect standard bar-and-grill staples more than anything regional or experimental. If you want a proper meal instead of grabbing a $6 snack box from a newsstand, this is one of the few full-plate options in BHM’s Main concourse.

Service speed at Char Bar lines up with a normal 45–60 minute sit-down: about 10–15 minutes to see food after ordering and another 10 minutes to get the check sorted, based on typical airport turnover. That makes it workable with a 90-minute layover or a pre-flight arrival where you’re at the checkpoint about an hour and a half before departure.

Alcohol is a core part of the setup here, with taps and bottled beer, basic wine options, and straightforward well drinks poured at a standard 1.5-ounce shot. Tab for a burger and a beer usually lands around the $25–$30 mark before tip, similar to what you’d see at a chain bar in a mid-size hub.

Practical tip: pass security first, then walk the Main concourse until you see Char Bar along the central stretch; check your gate number and sit on the side of the bar facing your gate so you can watch boarding start without relying on overhead announcements.
