$10/day cap makes BHM’s Economy Lot the long-trip play

At Birmingham-Shuttlesworth (Main terminal), the Economy Lot runs $2/hour with a hard cap of $10/day, undercutting the $17/day deck by a noticeable margin if you’re gone more than a couple of days. It’s a surface lot set up specifically for extended-stay parking, so think “leave the car and forget it for a week,” not quick in-and-out errands.

The lot sits off Messer Airport Highway at University Avenue; you turn right there, then left onto Airline Drive to reach the entrance. Drivers new to BHM sometimes miss that University Avenue turn and have to loop back along Messer, so slow down as you approach and watch the signage. The location is still close enough that the shuttle ride to the Main terminal clocks in around 5 minutes.

Airport-run shuttles operate 24/7 on a continuous loop between the Economy Lot and the terminal doors, which is generous for an airport BHM’s size and covers those 4:30 a.m. departures and near-midnight arrivals. You’re parking outdoors in a surface lot, so factor in Alabama heat or rain if you’re loading kids, bags, or golf clubs curbside at your car.

Payment follows the posted $2/hour structure with that $10/day ceiling, and that pricing is where the value sits for trips of several days or more. For a five-night work trip, you’re looking at roughly $50 here versus about $85 in the deck at $17/day, and that difference scales quickly on week-long vacations.

Pro tip: Screenshot BHM’s Economy Lot directions before you drive; if your maps app lags near Messer Airport Highway and you miss University Avenue, it’s easier to spot the right turn the second time around.
