5:00 AM openings make Blimpie the default breakfast stop
In the Main Terminal at Meadows Field, Blimpie: America’s Sub Shop sits past TSA in the small post-security area and usually runs from about 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM, flexing with the flight schedule and any TSA closures. It’s one of the few food options after security, so factor that in if your BFL departure is around the early-morning Bakersfield–Phoenix bank.
This is basic American sub-shop fare at airport prices, but still in the low “$” tier for an airport. Expect cold and hot subs, simple breakfast sandwiches, chips, and bottled drinks. If you just want a turkey or ham sub made to order before a 7:00 AM boarding call, this is the spot that actually opens in time. Coffee is drip, not espresso, and usually costs less than you’d pay at a big-chain café in a larger hub.
Post-security location means you can clear TSA first and then eat without clock-watching the checkpoint line. The shop sits in the Main Terminal’s secured gate area, so once you’re through, everything is within a one-minute walk of your gate. This is grab-and-go friendly: you can get a wrapped sandwich, bag of chips, and a drink and be back at your seat in under 10 minutes if the line is short.
There’s no deep local twist here despite the “Local · American” tag in airport materials; think standard Blimpie menu rather than Bakersfield-specific dishes. Seating in the Main Terminal is shared with the gate area, so you’re basically eating at the same chairs you’ll board from. If you land after 8:00 PM on a delayed arrival, plan on this being closed and bring something from your origin airport instead.
Tip: on early flights, clear security first and order a breakfast sandwich here around 30 minutes before boarding so it’s still warm when your group gets called.
