Sala VIP Joan Miró

T1 · near D gates, through duty‑free, then down stairs/elevator near McDonald’s Open · 05:00-23:30 showers Day pass €44.00

AA and BA long‑haul out of BCN T1 all feed into Sala VIP Joan Miró

This is the only lounge option for Oneworld non‑Schengen departures from T1, sitting after passport control by the D gates, down the stairs or elevator near the McDonald’s. It runs 05:00–23:30 daily, so it covers the early eastbound runs and the late‑evening US bank. Access is via Priority Pass, airline invite, or a walk‑up day pass at roughly €44, which some economy passengers treat as a one‑off splurge before overnight flights.

The room is bigger than first‑timers expect, with long sightlines across multiple seating zones and views toward the D pier. Power outlets sit between many of the armchairs, but not all; assume one socket for every two or three seats on older rows. It’s busy around the 16:00–19:00 US/UK wave, when AA and BA departures cluster, and noticeably calmer mid‑morning and late evening.

Food is the strong point: Head for Points called it better than many third‑party lounges, with hot items like pasta or rice dishes, plus cold cuts, cheeses and packaged snacks rotating through the day. Coffee machines and soft drinks are self‑serve, with Spanish wines and basic spirits on the counter from late morning. If you want a full meal before an AA 0735 or BA 0855, plan to eat here rather than at the gate, where options thin out past security.

Showers exist but come with a catch: FlyerTalk regulars report a €10 fee including towel rental for each use. There are only a handful of shower rooms, so during the late‑afternoon departure bank they can have short waits of 10–20 minutes. If you’re landing from a Schengen connection into T1 and connecting to an evening AA flight, don’t assume a free clean‑up; budget the fee or skip it.

Wi‑Fi is the sore spot. Multiple reviews mention that access is only free for the first 15 minutes, after which you need a paid code sold at the desk. Regulars bypass the lounge network entirely and tether to their phone or rely on EU roaming data, especially when killing 60–90 minutes before a transatlantic departure. If you plan to stream, download shows before you reach the D‑gate duty‑free corridor.

There’s a quieter wing beyond the main buffet, past the spa/salon area that reportedly keeps roughly 08:30–21:00 hours and is often closed. That side picks up fewer announcements and stays calmer even when the central area fills before the 17:00–19:00 departures. For a short work sprint, head straight there after check‑in at the front desk.

Practical tip: coming from security, follow signs to D gates, walk through duty‑free, then drop down the stairs or elevator by McDonald’s; don’t burn time hunting upstairs near the main concourse.
