CapMetro first, then Greyhound: AUS flyers don’t board buses at the terminal

Greyhound Intercity does not stop at Austin Bergstrom’s Barbara Jordan terminal, so flyers have to head into town before any coach ride to San Antonio, Dallas, or beyond. One Redditor spelled it out: you land at AUS, then use CapMetro’s MetroAirport or Route 20 bus, or a rideshare, to reach the current Greyhound pickup spot in Austin.

Expect the airport leg to downtown to run about 30–40 minutes on CapMetro, depending on traffic, before you even see your Greyhound. Intercity departure times are set by Greyhound’s national schedule, not by AUS arrivals, so long layovers of 2–4 hours between flight and bus are common. Build the buffer; this is not a tight-connection option.

Recent riders point out that Greyhound no longer uses a big fixed station downtown and instead rotates among curbside or shared facilities along corridors like I‑35 or Eastside lots. Some posts mention their coach leaving from a different Austin curb than printed on the ticket. Before leaving the terminal, check the exact address and pin it in Maps by street number so you’re not hunting for the bus with a backpack and roller bag.

Regulars usually ride CapMetro’s MetroAirport or Route 20 from AUS into the central city, then walk or grab a short rideshare hop for the last mile to the current Greyhound curb. Plan on about $2–$3 for the city bus plus your Greyhound fare for the intercity leg, which can undercut one-way rental car prices by a big margin on longer routes.

Watch out for: schedules and locations changing. Intercity runs might leave only a few times per day on certain routes, and there’s no AUS-specific timetable. Miss your coach and you may sit in Austin for an extra 4–6 hours. Also, some pickup spots have limited shelter and seating, so pack a light jacket and keep snacks from the Barbara Jordan food court.

One practical tip: book a Greyhound that departs at least 3 hours after your scheduled landing time at AUS, then add another 30 minutes if you’re checking bags or arriving in the evening rush.
