Gate 4 in Terminal 1, this is your airport bar

The Old Dutch Bar sits airside in Terminal 1 near Gate 4, so you hit it after security and before boarding at AUA. It’s strictly a bar, not a full restaurant, and the focus is beer, spirits, and simple mixed drinks. Figure mid-range airport pricing in the $$ bracket, so drinks run higher than downtown Oranjestad but in line with other spots past security.

Hours track with flight banks in Terminal 1, usually opening before the first departures around 6:00 a.m. and staying open into the evening wave. Because it’s inside security in Terminal 1, it mainly serves U.S.-bound and regional flights using that side of the building. If you’re departing from another part of the airport, don’t count on backtracking here once you pass through any separate screening.

The menu skews to standard bar pours: bottled and draft beer, basic wine, and mainstream liquor labels. Expect recognizable Caribbean and Dutch beers at around typical $$ bar prices, along with simple cocktails built from house spirits rather than top-shelf. Food, if offered at all, is light bar snacks rather than full entrées, so plan to eat a real meal elsewhere in AUA’s Terminal 1 if you want something more than chips or nuts.

Seating lines the bar and a few nearby tables, and it fills up before banked departures near Gate 4, especially when multiple U.S. flights board within 60–90 minutes of each other. Service pace tracks crowd levels; with only a couple of bartenders, a round can take 10–15 minutes during peak afternoon departures. The upside of the location by Gate 4 is you can keep an eye on your boarding area while you finish your drink.

Tip: If your flight from Gate 4 or nearby boards in under 45 minutes, order a single drink, grab a stool facing the monitors, and pay your tab right away so you can walk straight to boarding when your group is called.
