Trains run from ATL to downtown every 12–15 minutes

The MARTA Red Line runs directly from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to downtown and Buckhead. The station sits inside the Domestic terminal, at the west end near baggage claim and Ground Transportation. Trains typically run every 12–15 minutes from early morning until late night, with extra frequency during weekday rush hours.

From the airport to Five Points downtown takes about 20 minutes on the Red Line. You pay with a Breeze Card or Breeze ticket bought from the vending machines in the station; a single-ride fare is usually under $3. Signs clearly mark “MARTA” from the Domestic terminal arrivals level, so you do not need a shuttle or bus transfer to reach the platform.

International terminal passengers use a free ATL SkyTrain-style shuttle bus to the Domestic terminal first, then follow signs to the MARTA station. That shuttle ride from the International terminal to Domestic usually takes 10–15 minutes depending on traffic outside the terminal. Build that transfer time into your schedule before targeting a specific train.

The Red Line runs north from the Airport station through College Park, then into downtown with stops like Five Points, Peachtree Center, and Civic Center. From there it continues through Midtown to Buckhead and beyond, sharing some tracks with the Gold Line between Airport and Lindbergh Center. Check the destination sign on the front of the train and board only Red or Gold Line trains marked “North” when leaving the airport.

You can buy a reusable Breeze Card at the airport MARTA station ticket machines for a small one-time fee, usually around $2, then load multiple trips. Single-use Breeze tickets cost slightly more per ride. Keep your card or ticket handy, since you need it both to enter and sometimes to exit certain stations on the Red Line.

Tip: For an early flight out of ATL, count backwards from your boarding time and give yourself at least 45–60 minutes from any downtown Red Line station to clear airport security in the Domestic terminal.
