Rail

Trains run about every 12 minutes on MARTA’s Gold Line.

The MARTA Gold Line is a rail line linking Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) with central Atlanta and northern suburbs. The airport station sits at the Domestic Terminal, directly off the baggage claim area, and operates as part of MARTA’s rapid transit network. Trains on this line share tracks with the Red Line between the Airport and Lindbergh Center, then continue north toward Doraville.

The airport MARTA station at the Domestic Terminal is fully inside the fare system, while the International Terminal passengers need to use a free shuttle bus between International and Domestic, which takes around 10–15 minutes. Once at the Domestic Terminal station, you enter through fare gates using a Breeze Card or Breeze Mobile ticket, with single-ride fares typically priced around standard MARTA base fare levels across the network.

From the airport to Midtown on the Gold Line and shared Red/Gold segment usually takes around 20–25 minutes, with around 18 miles of track between ATL and central Atlanta. Trains run roughly every 10–20 minutes depending on time of day, with more frequent service on weekdays during rush hours and slightly longer waits late evenings and on weekends.

Key Gold Line stops from the airport include West End, Five Points downtown, Peachtree Center, and Lindbergh Center, before continuing to Doraville at the northern end. Five Points is the main transfer hub where you can switch between the Gold and Red Lines, as well as the Blue and Green Lines, all in the same station complex.

Operating hours on the MARTA rail system generally span from about 4:45 a.m. to around 1:00 a.m. on weekdays, with slightly later first trains and similar closing times on weekends, though exact first and last train times vary by station and day. Late-night travelers after the last Gold Line departure from the airport often need to look at rideshare or taxi options instead of rail.

One practical tip: if you land at the International Terminal, budget at least 30 minutes to ride the free terminal shuttle to the Domestic side and catch the next Gold Line train, especially during evening arrivals when shuttle and train headways can stack up.
