Airport Taxi

Taxi

Taxi 15-20 min S/ 30-50

Taxi takes 15–20 minutes from AQP T1 to Plaza de Armas

With the terminal only about 5.1 km from central Arequipa, Airport Taxi is the default option out of T1 if you land early morning or close to midnight and just want to be in town in 15–20 minutes instead of walking 1+ km to Avenida Ejército for a bus.

More than 80 official taxis from three associations (Esttia S.A., Remisse Rodríguez Ballón, Representaciones Remisse 24) base at the terminal, so even after a wave of LATAM or Sky Airline arrivals you usually step out of baggage claim and get a car within 5–10 minutes.

Fares quoted by operators sit around S/30–S/50 to the historic center, but Spanish-language guides and locals put the typical rate closer to S/15–S/25, so treat anything above S/40 to Plaza de Armas as high unless it is late at night or you have oversized luggage.

Stands and desks for the authorized taxi associations sit landside in T1, just after customs and before the main exit doors, and regulars recommend picking a desk, confirming a fixed price to "Centro" or a specific hotel on Calle Jerusalén or Calle Zela, then paying the driver directly at the curb.

The ride itself runs 15–20 minutes in light traffic along Avenida Ejército and into the center, but in peak evening hours some travelers report pushes to 25–30 minutes, especially on weekdays when traffic thickens near shopping centers along the 5 km stretch.

How to use Airport Taxi step by step

  • 1. Exit arrivals in T1: After baggage claim and customs in T1, walk straight 20–30 meters to the line of official taxi desks before the sliding doors to the public area.
  • 2. Pick an official association: Choose one of the three regulated providers (look for Esttia, Remisse Rodríguez Ballón, or Remisse 24 signs) and state your destination, for example “Plaza de Armas” or a hotel on Calle Mercaderes.
  • 3. Confirm the fare in soles: Ask for the price in writing or on the desk slip; to central Arequipa expect something in the S/30–S/50 range, and push back politely if they quote well above S/50 without a clear reason.
  • 4. Get your taxi slip or vehicle number: The desk usually hands you a ticket or tells you the car number; keep this with you until you reach your hotel, especially for rides after 22:00.
  • 5. Meet the driver outside: Walk 10–20 meters out of the terminal to the marked taxi lane, match the plate or car number with your slip, and load luggage into the trunk yourself if you want to keep an eye on bags.
  • 6. Pay in cash at the end: Most drivers expect payment in Peruvian soles when you arrive; have small bills like S/10 and S/20 ready, since drivers often lack change for S/100 notes.
  • 7. For the return to AQP: From central hotels around Plaza de Armas, ask reception to call an official service or pre-book a pickup about 2 hours before departure time, which usually gives a 15–20 minute ride plus 60–90 minutes in T1 for check-in and security.

One last tip: if you are tempted to save money with a colectivo, remember the walk to Avenida Ejército is more than 1 km, so with heavy luggage or a late-night arrival the S/10–S/20 you save may not be worth the extra 15–20 minutes on foot by an unfamiliar road.
