Airport rank-and-file taxis start around EC$26 from Terminal 1

Meter-free cabs from the United Taxi Association line up just outside arrivals at Terminal 1, taking cash fares from roughly EC$26 (about US$10) for the shortest airport runs. You walk out of customs, turn left, and the dispatch stand sits about 40 meters from the exit doors under the main canopy.

United Taxi Association runs from first inbound flights around 06:00 until the last scheduled arrivals close to 23:00, so you can usually get a cab even on late LIAT or American arrivals. The queue works on a first-come system, with drivers called forward by a dispatcher holding a clipboard and a printed rate sheet.

Official fares post in Eastern Caribbean dollars, and sample prices run roughly EC$52–EC$65 to St. John’s city hotels and EC$70–EC$110 to resort areas like Dickenson Bay or Jolly Harbour. Ask the dispatcher to point to the rate for your specific hotel or address before you load bags into the trunk.

All rides are point-to-point, and you pay the driver directly in cash at drop-off. Some drivers take US dollars at a fixed rate of EC$2.6 to US$1, but the posted tariff assumes EC$, so carrying at least EC$100 from the airport ATM near baggage carousel 2 keeps the math clean.

Taxis here operate as standard four-door sedans or small vans, usually with space for 3–4 passengers plus two large checked bags and one carry-on per person. If you have golf bags or more than four people, tell the dispatcher so they can slot you into a van with a folding rear row instead of a compact sedan.

There is no Uber, Lyft, or local app alternative covering ANU as of 2024, so the United Taxi Association line effectively handles almost all on-demand ground transport from the airport. Resort shuttles still exist, but those run on fixed timetables and often wait for multiple flights, while the taxi rank moves every 3–5 minutes during busy afternoon banks.

For arrivals after 21:30, grab an ATM withdrawal and visit the washrooms before you leave the secure area, then head straight to the taxi stand to avoid standing in the humidity while juggling luggage and currency.
